Although technically unrelated to the study of astrology, some astrologers explore reincarnation as it relates to the planets.

Reincarnation is defined as the human existence following a continuous cyle of having many bodies and living many lives. The concept of reincarnation began in India around the 9th century BC, and has been adopted by many Eastern religions, including Buddhism and Taoism. Plato weighed in on the concept of reincarnation when he stated that the soul, which pre-existed before the fall of man, had to be purified through reincarnation before returning to heaven. Since then, reincarnation has taken on many New Age forms, and has loosely been related to karma, or the carryforward of good or ill-will from past lives.

One of the most well known astrologers to consider reincarnation as it relates to astrology was Ry Redd. A student of gifted psychic Edgar Cayce, who performed many past-life interpretations, Redd spent a considerable amount of time analyzing his psychic readings. He did this by using a computer to calculate the astrology charts for the hundreds of people who received readings from Edgar Cacye over the course of his life. He then dissected the planetary influences surrounding the people and those readings, and found straightforward but distinct past life patterns. By interpreting the conjuncts and aspects in a person's astrology chart, for example, with regards to the Sun and Mercury, and the Moon and Jupiter, Redd has been able to shed light on an individuals reincarnation, both in the past and the future. Ry Redd's research effort was exhaustive and was conducted over many years.
